Haha! But I don't have kids. So even if everyone bought candy, I would still end up with giving mine away and getting nothing in return... Unless I really enjoyed greeting the kids at the door.

It's fine if everyone wants a new tradition and want to take that tradition from somewhere else (isn't that the swedish way of doing things?), but they shouldn't force it on ME!!! =)

I'm all for costume-parties and such. But Halloween is an american tradition, and importing it to Sweden is just silly. No one knows WHEN it is, no one knows HOW it's done. There's no cultural framework.

How are kids supposed to know where to go trick-or-treating? I've seen kids that just wander the neighborhood, and then get disappointed since people either don't open their doors or don't have candy. Again, no one expects to buy candy for strangers kids. In the US this works since EVERYONE buys candy, so your own kids are guaranteed to come home with some booty. It's the circle of life, or Halloween.

But Sweden has just imported this, and are essentially producing a very bad imitation of the real thing. I guess the monks who introduced christianity to the Vikings might've had a similar experience to what I am.

"No no no, you're doing it all wrong! No, that's not what that is used for! No, put that sword down!"

I for one is against the whole "begging for candy or money" thing that occurs every easter, and resently has started to occur every "Halloween". Dress parties are fine and fun. Giving away greetingcards is fine too, but my mother never let me go around begging for candy. Now I see why. And I'm sure not going to buy candy for other peoples kids. The whole thing is stupid!

Maybe they should be giving ME candy!
