The Ultimate Time-waster

Posted by isecore on December 14th, 2007

Well, I resisted it for the longest of times but now I’ve fallen for the temptation. Yep, I’ve gotten myself a Facebook-account now as well. I don’t really see it as anything else than yet another online community, but I have plenty of time and the curiosity about the place finally won over my cynicism surrounding hyped websites.

At least it’s a lot better than the putrid swamp that is Myspace. Wild horses couldn’t drag me into that place…

It´s basically just another community , I agree. Just dont send me membership requests of tousands of plugins and stuff because I will NOT join them =), I have a bunch waiting for my approval, and the list grows longer. This is just fluff in my opinion, in some weak moments I accepted some of them by accident and now I dont take the time or energy to leave them. (you can send invitations to a bunch of different stuff on facebook, most of it is nonsense). However, by some peculiar reason facebook seems to be teh shit nowadays, I just regard it as another brand of Lunarstorm, but not quite as bad.

Agreed! Just don’t install any applications during the first 7 days to give yourself time to learn what they are all about, how application developers can automatically access your information if you add their application, how some applications spread like viruses by spamming your friends and why that is annoying. There are many good apps to use and play with, and also a lot of crap. Ask if you need recommendations, and make sure to go through the privacy settings with extreme care. And for all goodness in the world, do read the user agreement - and then think twice before entering any personal information or photos of yourself or anyone else!

Other than that, go wild. :)

Andreas: the privacy issues surrounding Facebook make me quite vary about the whole concept. As far as going wild, I won’t go very wild. In fact, I’m still quite disinterested in the whole phenomena, and the main reason for registering an account is my rampant curiosity. I highly doubt I will be spending copious amounts of time polishing my details on Facebook even under the best of circumstances.
